Psychotherapy is a process in which you meet weekly with a psychologist and examine what is troubling you and what might be preventing you from having a rich, full, meaningful life. Sessions may be with you, or with you and your spouse/partner. Feeling comfortable with the psychologist in a non-critical environment is of paramount importance.

In a supportive, accepting atmosphere, you will learn to articulate your feelings. You will also learn skills that promote change. Sometimes people get stuck in the past and are burdened with such emotions as regret, grief, anger helplessness, or unfulfilled dreams. Most people come to learn that they in fact have much more control over their situations than they thought. A series of short-term psychotherapy sessions can be the turning point for long-term change.

William Faulkner notes “the past is never dead. It’s not even past.” At the same time, emotions we attribute to the past may sometimes arise from how we are feeling in the present. Yet our past provides us with a general sense of who we are and guides us as we imagine the future. Creative Reminiscence is a narrative approach that can help you recall the past in a way that effects a better present and future.
