New Jersey Foster Care Scholars Program Application Opens

We are excited to share that applications are now open.

Who is eligible? Individuals who:

  • Have been in the care and custody of the New Jersey Department of Children and Families Child Protection & Permanency in an out-of-home placement for a cumulative of 9 months or more following the youth’s 16th birthday.
  • Have been in an out-of-home placement for a cumulative of 18 months or more following the youth’s 14th birthday.
  • Reside in or have resided in an independent living arrangement, or Transitional Living Program. *The facility or program must be established, operated or approved for payment by New Jersey CP&P, the federal government pursuant to the Runaway & Homeless Youth Act, or the New Jersey Homeless Youth Act.
  • Be adopted through New Jersey CP&P following the youth’s 12th birthday.
  • Have been in a CP&P out-of-home placement and left to enter KLG following the youth’s 16th birthday.

What can funding be used for? There are two funding sources: Students who are eligible for the Federal Education Training Voucher (ETV)/State Option funding may receive assistance with the following:

  • Tuition + Fees
  • Room + Board
  • Books + Supplies
  • Transportation
  • Computers + Tablets
  • Child Care Costs

Students who are eligible for the Statewide Tuition Waiver Program may receive assistance with remaining full-time tuition and fees (does not include room and board) at a NJ public school after federal and state financial aid has been applied. Each student’s case history will determine the source of funding and services the scholarship will provide (see chart for more information). What is required to apply?
